Long fasting hours in UAE summer heat don't just affect your energy — they show up in your hair, too. Many women notice drier strands, a flakier scalp, or more shedding than usual by the second or third week of Ramadan. It's not fasting itself causing hair loss directly — it's the dehydration, shifted sleep, and nutrient gaps that come with it.
Why hair changes during Ramadan
- Dehydration. No water intake for 12+ fasting hours in UAE heat leaves hair (which is roughly a quarter water by weight) dry and more prone to breakage.
- Nutrient timing. If suhoor and iftar meals skew toward quick carbs rather than protein, iron and zinc, hair follicles are among the first to feel the shortfall. Our nutrition guide for UAE women covers what to eat.
- Disrupted sleep. Late-night and pre-dawn eating shifts sleep cycles, and poor sleep is directly linked to increased shedding.
A simple Ramadan hair ritual
At suhoor (before sunrise): Massage Hair Tonic Lotion into the scalp before your fasting hours begin — it's your one chance in a 12+ hour window to actively support circulation to the follicle.
During fasting hours: Keep styling minimal and avoid heat tools, which stress already-dehydrated hair further. If you wear a hijab, apply a small amount of Essential 9 Hair Oil to the hairline in the morning for a light protective layer against friction through the day. For more on this, see hijab hair loss in the UAE.
At iftar, rehydrate from the inside. Water intake matters more than any topical product — aim to rebuild fluid levels steadily between iftar and suhoor rather than all at once.
Evening wash (2-3x weekly, not daily): Over-washing during Ramadan strips moisture your hair can't easily replace right now. When you do wash, Soak Shampoo cleanses gently, followed by Hydro Conditioner (leave it on for 2–3 minutes, then rinse thoroughly) to restore moisture through a dehydrating month.
Before Taraweeh or iftar gatherings: A light mist of Hair Shield Spray protects against the heat and dust of the evening commute. If hair tangles easily under a scarf or during quick touch-ups, keep De-Tangling Hair Spray in your bag.
The one-bundle shortcut
If your routine needs to be as simple as possible this month, the Hair Care Set covers the essentials without adding extra steps to an already full day.
The bottom line
Fasting itself won't cause lasting hair loss. A few minutes of scalp care at suhoor, consistent hydration, and gentler washing are usually enough to get your hair through Ramadan looking just as healthy as it did going in.
